Theme:
This MUSH is based on Harry Potter, by J.K. Rowling. There is a twist.
This takes place some 75 years in the future, after most, if not all the
book characters have retired off camera, died or whatever it takes to
keep them off camera. Also, there is a new species in the world, thanks
to muggles. Genetically engineered 'Furz'. For more on them, see
below.
Voldemort is long gone, but some evil wizards worry that
too many Furz are being born as wizards while humans decline. There are
muggles who also worry about human purity, so Furz do have their enemies
as much as mutants in the X-Men universe have them. Furz do have equal
rights on the surface, as the humans do, but there is still growing
tensions between humans and Furz. This does not mean all Furz and humans
are enemies at all, but that there are factions on both sides who are,
shall we say, somewhat bigoted. While the Death Eaters of the past are
gone, today we have dark Furz Wizards who hate all humans, dark wizard
humans who hate Furz and the 'good guys' trying to get everyone to just
get along.
Through all this, there is Hogwart's, teaching both human and Furz witches
and wizards their craft. Also trying to teach both sides to live together
in peace. As such, the sorting hat took to placing Furz equaly in each
house to promote unity, despite the fact that Slytherin House used to
be mostly purebred wizards. There are very, very few purebred wizards
anymore as it is, so the hat simply disregards blood and looks only to
what a person is like 'inside'..
In the year 2020, the first furz was created in a secret lab on a privately
owned island. They say that certain people in furry fandom in the early
2000's won the lottery and bought an island and invited other fans to come
help them build a comunity there. Some of the fans had done a great deal of
study into genetic engineering and with the creation of a lab, it was not
long before they reached their goal of 'real furries'. The secret of how
to make them was published on the internet and within the first year, 50
furz children were born around the world. The governments of the world
were outraged, but by the time they tried to control it, activist groups
were already clammering for rights for Furz children and there were many
childless couples requesting to adopt any Furz the government seized from
illegal labs.
Furz are gentically compatable with humans as they are a phenotype. What
this means is that they are basically human, but LOOK like bipedal animals
and any offspring between Furz are not 'mixed'. Children are either like
one parent or the other. i.e. A human and a Fox Furz would only have fox
Furz or human children, not something that looks like a cross between the
two. Two Furz parents, such as a horse and a cat, would have horse or cat
children, not Corses or Hats.. Gryphon and Dragon Furz do not have
mammalian breasts, as they were not engineered to have them, thus their
children have to be fed using 'formula' that is available in both the
muggle and Wizard worlds.
